Today the Danish photographer Mads Nissen accepted our invitation to hold one of the eight lectures at the LUMIX Festival for Young Photojournalism 2016.
Mads Nissen, 36, is one of the many talents educated at the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus. His work focuses on contemporary social issues such as overpopulation, human rights violations and human’s often-destructive relationship with nature. Just after he graduated with a degree in photojournalism he moved to Shanghai to document the human and social consequences of China’s historical economic rise. He has worked for major newspapers and magazines, such as Newsweek, TIME, Spiegel, Stern or Sunday Times. Mads is currently working on contract with the Danish Newspaper POLITIKEN. He published two books »AMAZONAS« (2013) and »The Fallen - Danes killed in the Afghan-war« (2010). His work has been awarded many times, including several awards from World Press Photo, Picture of the Year among others. In 2015 his image of Jon and Alex – a gay couple from Russia – was selected Picture of the Year at World Press Photo.
Mads is a member of Panos Pictures and represented by LAIF in Germany and Prospekt in Italy.
