Shiho Fukada, based in Boston and Tokyo has accepted our invitation and will be one of the lecturers at the 5th LUMIX Festival. The photojournalist and filmmaker studied English Literature at the Sophia University Japan and worked in fashion advertising before picking up a 35mm camera and starting her career as a news photographer in New York City. Many international stories followed – mostly focusing on medial neglected topics. One of her most renown works illustrates the changes in the Japanese economy and the resulting force of day laborers. Shiho Fukada’s work was awarded numerous times – working both as a photojournalist as well a filmmaker – her prizes include a Emmy nomination and the 3rd place at the Word Press Multimedia Awards. Her work is published in many international newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Time, Stern, New Yorker, Le Monde, CNN and MSNBC.
